Alexa.com or sometimes known as “Alexa Rating” shows traffic stats for your website as well as many websites throughout the world. I’ve been using Alexa Ratings for three years now. Regardless, Alexa.com gives you ideas and helps you find up coming HOT websites to write a review before anyone else knows about it.

Once in a while I like to look at this list. You can go to Alexa.com front page; look for a link at the top called “More about Movers and Shakers.” This is basically like stocks. You want to know how much volume that stock has traded today and what stocks had the highest # of trade volume.

This movers and shakers page can be broken down by English, Chinese, and Global top 10.

You can see from the pic above that Mint.com has moved up from 38,000 to 3,091 traffic rank, increase of 1,100%.

Mint.com was featured on Techcrunch.com and was the winner of Techcrunch 40 Conference. So you know many people visited their site and caused this increase of traffic and raised their ranking. The lower your rank # the better Alexa rating you have. So #1 is Yahoo, #2 Google #3 MSN, and so on…

You can also look at the sites that are on the downslide. You can see from the pic above that #7 is Simpsonizeme.com and #10 is Simpsonsmovie.com. The trend shows you that they are losing traffic and rank is going down.

You may or may not know that Alexa.com is losing market share to their competitors such as compete.com. Even so, I still browse this movers and shakers to find what type of sites are getting the attention. One time there was this guy name Alex Tew (the guy who started Milliondollarhomepage.com) I saw his website on Alexa’s movers and shakers before his site took off. I’m talking about within 2 weeks of his site launch and before anyone knew about Milliondollarhomepage.com. At times, you can find a gem like this kind of information. I could have totally copied the site and started it almost at the same time as he did…
