Whateverlife.com vs. PimpMySpace.org
A week ago I read an article about a girl who started Myspace resource website Whateverlife.com 2 years ago. It’s now earning up to $1M+/year, $70K/month.
I was inspired by this story so I did some research on this.
Several years ago, Myspace resource websites were popping up left and right. Now there are thousands, hundred thousands Myspace related sites out there. Just about everyone was creating their own Myspace resource sites to a point where it was so saturated and was difficult to make money from it. Then a story like Whateverlife.com made me realize that you can differentiate yourself from others and come out successful. I’ll share little details about what to look for and what not to do when you are creating your own sites similar to Whateverlife & PimpMyspace.
Do you remember
this was one of the first Myspace Layouts/Resource websites from mid 2005. I recall the site was sold for some undisclosed amount, I’m not sure exact but it was worth it. So… I’ve thought about creating one of these Myspace resource site last year when I saw people raking in $300 - $500/day.
I was impressed but I knew things were dying down so I didn’t jump into it. The Fact is, you can buy scripts (ready made Myspace resource website) for dirt cheap. But Then you realize that everyone everyone and their brother jumped into it so the market got terribly saturated with many copies of this on the internet. Then what? it’s not unique, its same thing as everyone else. There was this one Myspace Resource Site Script [MSRS] created by respected programmer Greg-J. This script cost $297. Why make the few hundred dollar investment though, when you can buy Myspace script for $2-$10 per copy on eBay or any webmaster forums. I’ve seen this script work and worked beautifully. It was one of the first MSR scripts that I’ve seen that was actually well thought out. Moving around google adsense ads..!! When I first saw it I yelled out “Holy Cow” for a while. The script isn’t lucruative as it used to be, now you can’t put images next to adsense ads anymore.
I liked MSRS but I took a pass on that bus. You never know until you try it out yourself. You can still make money from this but you need something that will bring people back to your site. How ? look at Whateverlife.com. She started this two years ago, about the same time as PimpMyspace

If you are looking to start your own Myspace resource site, I would look at the difference between Whateverlife and Pimpmyspace and learn from them.
You have to compete with both of these sites and hundreds of thousand others. How can you differentiate yourself? At first you can keep your cost down by outsourcing your work. One big mistake I notice is that the domain name PimpMyspace includes trademarked words “Myspace” I would be cautious and not include Trademarked word in a domain name. You might likely receive a Cease and Desist letter. Buy how PimpMyspace is getting away with it? Did Myspace actually buy them?
Including PimpMyspace.com, most MSRS are unchanged static websites. They rely on people to put up layouts/glitters on their profile with linking back option.

This is one of the layout offered from PimpMyspace but in the bottom right corner url is FriendsterLayouts?? This site is also owned by PimpMyspace I’m not sure why they decided to send profile linking options to FriendsterLayouts.org instead of PimpMyspace? Is this because domain name includes “Myspace”?? against TOS? All of their layouts have that URL on the bottom right corner. I wonder why?
So do not buy a domain name with Trademark of some big company. You are small time but what happens when your site expands? Get more exposure? Then what? You don’t want to get screwed down the road and have your site taken down.
Basically I’m telling you that you need a way for people to stick to your site and continue to come back for more. Whateverlife current has 2996 layouts as of September 2nd, and added more each week. That’s the key to getting more traffic to your site. You have to update your site with new stuff or you’ll lose return visitors.
Whateverlife succeeded because Ashley and her friend updated the site frequently by adding new Myspace layouts, attracting new visitors and keeping them interested to turn them into return visitors. I think that was the difference that made Whateverlife.com successful as it is now. You cannot afford to leave the site static and plain and not update it like the ones that currently sit idle. No one wants a stale page!
Good to hear that she hired a consultant Robb Lippitt, former COO of ePrize. $200/hr consulting fee?
Good luck and continue success to Ashley at Whateverlife.com
